Update Number 16
Ship Inn Policy as from
27th September 2021
We once again have tables inside, we are asking all our customers to please sanitise their hands on entry and wear masks until seated. We also ask that there are no more than 4 customers queuing inside for the bar....please appreciate the Ship is a small eighteenth century building.
Our understanding of the current situation is that it is up to all of us to be thoughtful and considerate of each other, please respect our decisions on how we are moving forward. We hope you understand and appreciate that we have put a lot of thought into operating The Ship in the safest way possible for staff and customers.
Update Number 15.....
Ship Inn Policy on life after
July 19th!!!
After very careful thought we have decided to continue our daytime service largely outside, as before we are serving our beer and food through our windows!
We have a limited number of tables inside, please order at the window & ask for a table inside. We are asking all our indoor customers to please sanitise their hands on entry and also to wear masks until seated.
We have decided on this course of action as we feel it is the safest option for both our customers and our staff. The Ship is a very small 18th century building and cannot cope safely at the moment with large numbers of people. We have reopened our loo – and ask that you access it from the rear of the building rather than coming through the pub, again this is to prevent queues of people forming inside. While we prefer card payments, we also accept cash.
Throughout the pandemic our staff have consistently worked hard, with good humour (and will continue to do so) in sometimes challenging circumstances to make your experience of visiting The Ship a happy one.

Update Number 14.......8th March 2021
Here we go again.....
HOIST THE MAIN SAILS!!!!!!
The Ship stands ready & able, freshly painted, wearing its new Ship Inn Sign with pride (thank you Bob FS)
The team have re-found their sea legs & all is Ship Shape & ready, hopefully sailing into calmer waters leaving rough, crazy stormy seas well & truly behind!!!
We look forward to seeing you on the horizon!!!!
Whilst we are looking forward to the unfurling of the road map, we will continue to make our own judgments about how & when we open our doors & windows to our customers, bearing in mind the size of the pub. We take our responsibilities to our staff & customers very seriously & will work within those restraints to operate safely.
Update Number 13!!!!
5th January 2021.....
We have reviewed our opening hours in light of the new government lockdown instructions.....
We feel the socially responsible way forward is to close our takeaway service,
therefore with great sadness The Ship Inn has closed it doors & lovely windows!
We will continue to review this as we cannot wait to reopen in as normal as way as possible
- as soon as possible!
Take good comfort that the sand, sea, seals, stars, moon & The Ship are all here waiting for you...
This will pass...stay very safe and we look forward to seeing you soon....
From all of us at The Ship we wish you & all yours
the very best for 2021
Update Number 12!!!
3rd January 2021.....
We are reviewing our opening hours..........at the moment we intend to open at weekends 10.15 - 4.00
Everything for everyone is so up in the air at the moment....
Please check out website for changes in details of opening hours, the website is updated in real time....
This will pass...stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon....
From all of us at The Ship we wish you the very best for 2021
We have installed outside a knee operated hand wash basin, automatic hand sanitizer, operating a metre plus policy with every ones health and safety very much at the forefront of our planning.
We are regrettably unable to allow customers to use our loos, however, the public loos behind the pub are open with a stringent cleaning schedule by the council.
The car park at the top of the hill is open, the ticket machine taking coins only....unfortunately we are not able to help with change as we are card payment only now - sorry.
Card payment only...thank you....please be responsible & respect our neighbours, please dispose of all packaging in our bins & various recycling crates,
keep 2 metres apart & if we look busy please come back later....

Update Number 11!!!
18th December 2020
We had hoped that we would be able to open as before ....carefully...
...with everyone’s safety as our first priority....however, it is not to be!

We will continue to open as a lunchtime takeaway seven days a week,
serving a smaller lunch menu from 11-3.
We still have no idea if we are going to busy, dead quiet or somewhere in between???
We can just ask you our lovely loyal customers to be patient and support The Ship
as it sails yet again into uncharted waters!
We will review this at at the end of December.....
Meanwhile Low Newton is as ever
and we will do our best to make your visit to The Ship Inn as enjoyable as always....
This will pass...stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon,
woolly hats, mittens and mulled wine in hand!
From all of us at The Ship we wish you a very Happy Christmas, and a very Happy New Year!!!!

Tuesday 28th April 2020!!!! Plans for the future of The Ship Inn ....
Our plans for the future when the lockdown restrictions ease:-
Our thinking at the moment is that we will not be able to open The Ship Inn in its old form for quite a few months,
however...do not despair! We will be selling our lovely beer and our lovely food from takeaway windows...served by our lovely staff!
We are extremely conscious of our responsibility to do this in a safe and secure way both for our customers and for ourselves. To this end we intend to serve food all day from 11a.m to 7.00pm, hopefully this will very much reduce numbers of customers queuing. Obviously the queue will be expected to observe social distance...anyone who finds this an irksome ask will politely be asked to leave! We will be using two windows....one for ordering and the other for collecting the order. This way we can regulate the flow of customers waiting. We will be serving our food in biodegradable disposable containers and our beer in plastic glasses....or bring your own glasses and we can sell you our beer in takeaway containers to pour into your own glass!
We are looking at the possibility of having a hand washing station at the front of the pub...but will of course have plenty of hand sanitizer around.
With your help, support and cooperation we can make this work! It will be different but it will work! watch this space for updates....timescales etc...!
Best wishes from us all at The Ship Tuesday 28th April 2020!!!!
